Open Access mandates – existing and anticipated – can exert a powerful selective pressure on scholarly publishers. So, as it looks toward the beginning of its second century, the American Society of Plant Biologists (ASPB) is re-imagining the ways in which it communicates plant biology – and simultaneously working to restructure its business model. In both instances, our emphasis is on meeting the needs of individual plant scientists, whether they may be authors, readers, or society members.
