Good Science, Good Communication: Talking to the Media and the Public

Open to all registrants
Sunday, February 19, 2012: 10:30 AM-12:00 PM
Room 111-112 (VCC West Building)
Improving scientists’ ability to communicate with journalists and the public is particularly important at a time of diminishing resources in mainstream news media, a 24/7 news environment, and a growing amount of misleading or inaccurate online information from a variety of sources. This workshop will bring together three leading science communication experts who will outline the case for why scientists should talk to the media and how best to do it. Two scientists who have engaged with the press, one senior and the other early career, will also discuss their experiences. This clinic should be helpful to scientists at all levels of the profession, journalists, public affairs officers, and members of the public.
