Fabián Pina Amargós, Coastal Ecosystems Research Center, Ciego de Avila, Cuba
Director of Cuba’s Center for Coastal Ecosystems Research, Dr. Pina is a marine ecologist. He will discuss the current state of marine studies in Cuba with an emphasis on socio-ecological interactions in protected areas versus multiple-use areas. He will synthesize the state of marine collaborations between the U.S. and Cuba and summarize the challenges and opportunities for scientists working under different political systems to influence policy.
