Technical Challenges in Sharing Clinical Trial Data

There are many technical and practical challenges in sharing of clinical trial data. At this time, there is poor adoption of the few existing standards for data collection and storage. Common data element definitions are not uniformly applied. Electronic health record data have shortcomings for research purposes. Data collected in a clinical trial may have different levels of quality. A major challenge is what data to share, through what technical infrastructure, when to share and with whom.
