Uses and Misuses of Shared Clinical Trial Data

There are many pros and cons for general sharing of clinical trial data once studies have completed. Shared data may be used to independently verify recently completed trials, to investigate secondary and tertiary hypotheses, or to data mine to generate new hypotheses. However, if data analyses are not conducted responsibly, incorrect or misleading conclusions may be reached which could be harmful to trials with effective interventions.
