The advent of high capacity, low cost electricity storage embedded in a smart grid will qualitatively change our concept and expectation of electricity as an energy carrier, with innovations including widespread deployment of wind and solar generation, reduced infrastructure cost by time shifting load peaks to demand valleys, and increased efficiency and reliability by managing customer demand and providing digital quality power with storage at the building and neighborhood scale.
