Electric cars promise the first fundamental transformation of personal transportation in a century, replacing foreign oil with domestic electricity, reducing energy cost, use and carbon emissions, and breaking the dependency of transportation on oil as its single energy source. The electricity storage requirements in energy density, charging time and safety for tipping transportation to electrification and the impact of electric cars in the developing and developed world will be examined.
