In 2011 Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) hosted "Bridging STEM to STEAM: Developing New Frameworks for Art Science Design Pedagogy," a workshop to understand creativity at the interface of art, science, technology, and design education. Sponsored by the National Science Foundation, this effort explores how pedagogical approaches unique to the arts and sciences could be integrated to produce new strategies for teaching and learning and increase opportunities for underrepresented groups to engage with the STEM disciplines. This presentation will describe initiatives for research and policy that build on these efforts.
