Regulating the Safety of Foods and Feeds Derived from Genetically Modified Crops

A very comprehensive safety assessment of genetically modified crops is required by regulatory agencies that utilizes molecular characterization, toxicological evaluation, allergenicity assessments, compositional analysis and feeding studies. However, the widespread use of transgenic crops worldwide and lack of adverse effects reported to humans has raised concerns over the utility of all these requirements.
