Community-based participatory research (CBPR) is an increasingly utilized form of community-engaged scholarship in which community members and researchers collaborate to conduct rigorous research focused on issues of community concern. This presentation defines CBPR, reviews its benefits and challenges, provides examples that demonstrate how knowledge gained through CBPR has been applied, and summarizes evidence-based strategies for building CBPR capacity among community members and researchers.
