The role of the national laboratory is evolving as the frontier facilities are increasingly global in concept and implementation. One laboratory may play host to a global facility while others may become the focal points for national contributions. Identifying a national program that builds on laboratory strengths and leverages global participation is an increasing challenge. Fermilab used this model with CERN and the LHC and now views its future through a global lens.
