The US Science Envoys Programs was initiated in November, 2009, through an announcement made by the Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, in Morocco. In a short time since the program’s inception, each of three Envoys have completed their first visits to several Middle Eastern and Muslim countries. The speaker will share his experience as an Envoy and discuss the objectives of the new initiative and how it builds upon the experiences gained from other agencies engaged in international scientific partnerships and development. The Envoys are likely to have completed 3 to 4 visits each by the time of the AAAS session, providing for an even more enriching discussion on the concept, goals, activities and accomplishments of the program.
