Through the Fogarty International Center, NIH engages in a broad range of research support for US and foreign investigators in global health research. However, a somewhat less well-known function of FIC also supports health research workforce and institutional development. The speaker will present details on the success of two such programs, Global Health Research Initiative and the Framework Programs for Global Health, placing them within the broader context of NIH funding portfolio, and their interface with other federal agencies with similar goals. Another new program, the Global Health Initiative, exemplifying coordination amongst several US agencies, will also be discussed.
