AI and Policy Engagement: Understanding the Public's Views of Social Risk

US and UK policy has shifted towards an open dialogue that seeks to involve citizens in the day-to-day practice of policy-making. For example, in 2014 the UK government launched a ‘Policy Lab’, to produce better policy through broadening engagement. This talk will focus on the importance of effective public dialogue in understanding the public’s views on social risk and social value regarding AI. Communicating AI research understandable ways for non-experts is central to effective policymaking.
