Members of the public sometimes express the concern that genetic modification amounts to “playing God,” is “against nature,” or represents an example of “hubris.” Drawing on examples offered by Professor Church of emerging applications of gene editing technology, Ms. Johnston will explore the possible meanings behind such concerns and consider their relevance to science policy.
