Methane emissions and their trends are highly uncertain, hindering climate policy. Satellite observations of atmospheric methane can help to test emission inventories and quantify point sources. This talk will show how inverse analyses of satellite observations over North America, in concert with the construction of high-quality emission inventories, can provide a powerful emission monitoring system for methane.
