Participatory Technology Assessment in the U.S. Policy Context

This talk will present the process and outcomes for several recent governmental projects that have engaged lay-citizens in providing formal public input to US policymakers on policy-relevant socio-scientific questions through a national network of science museums, universities, and policy institutions. Topics and results to be discussed include planetary defense, siting of spent fuel repository facilities, deep space exploration, synthetic biology, and climate mitigation and adaptation policy.
