Predictions of the carbon cycle response to anthropogenic climate change are highly uncertain.  A changing carbon cycle will not only affect the atmospheric burden of CO2, and thus overall climate forcing, but will also contribute new patterns of variability that will affect the community's ability to detect long-term trends within the observational record.  In this talk, I will discuss models and observations that contribute to improved predictability of carbon cycle dynamics.
