Science Forum South Africa began in Dec 2015 as a first attempt to create for Africa a large-scale, public platform to debate the science, policy and society interface. Although ‘Africa’ is a common theme at global events, the 54 country map of Africa had no forum of its own. With the goodwill of many, SFSA succeeded beyond all expectations, attracting 1,500 delegates from over 80 countries. It is now being held annually. My talk will offer insights into SFSA’s transformational power, its immediate and short-term goals and its policy-formation effect across the continent and globe.
