Science for Society: The Promise of Synthetic Biology

Scientists and engineers are taught that communication is an essential element of our disciplines.  However, most training in this area is focused on writing peer-reviewed manuscripts and delivering oral presentations targeted towards audiences of specialists.  I will briefly describe my experiences with communicating my work to a broader group, and the need to explain the ‘why’ as well as the ‘what.’
