Designing Aid Programs that Move Toward SDGs

Bilateral and multilateral aid programs have a powerful influence on development pathways. Incorporation of integrated scientific understanding into the design of aid projects can leverage aid investments. For instance, a sectoral initiative focused on one of the SDGs can be executed to enhance co-benefits—an energy access program, say, can be designed to minimize air pollution and water use. Aid programs are increasingly using systems science in formulating strategies.
