Statistical Challenges in Design and Analysis of Ebola Vaccine Trials

Evaluating vaccines when incidence is changing over time and the use of control vaccines is controversial poses numerous challenges. We consider the advantages and limitations of the standard individually randomized trial and step wedge trials. We also consider the use of a novel vaccine trial design based on ring vaccination.
