Engaging Scientists and Engineers in Policy (ESEP) Workshop

Pre-registration required
Monday, 16 February 2015: 11:45 AM-3:15 PM
Room LL20A (San Jose Convention Center)
Fee: $25

Organized by the ESEP Coalition in conjunction with the AAAS Office of Government Relations

The goal of ESEP, an ad-hoc coalition of organizations formed in 2013, is to empower scientists and engineers to effectively engage in the policymaking process at all levels of government (www.aaas.org/esep). This interactive workshop is an introduction for scientists, engineers, students, and science enthusiasts interested in participating in public policy. Speakers will address topics such as the role of culture, incentives, and effective communications skills in policy engagement; what the science and scientists tell us about what works; and successful case studies of engagement. The second half of the workshop will feature breakout groups addressing opportunities and barriers to engagement; organizational development and programming; support for policy engagement within higher education; and student engagement efforts.
