Involvement of nonresident fathers has increased significantly over the past 30 years. Dynamic family processes involving co-parenting is a key factor in nonresident fathers’ involvement with their children. This study considers the complex pattern of relationships that exists within families when masculine identities are examined with co-parenting behaviors, among nonresident African American fathers. Understanding these relationships has implications for policy and clinical practice with modern family structures.
