Achieving Less Than 2°C Warming Without Bio-Energy with Carbon Capture Storage (BECCS)

An integrated assessment of technology and policy scenarios suggests that it may be possible to limit climate change to 2^oC or less. The successful large-scale deployment of bioenergy with CO₂ capture and storage (BECCS) can help control the cost of achieving that goal, but a variety of other feasible technology pathways are identified that do not require BECCS. In all of the strategies explored here, land-use policy plays a critical role complementary to energy policy.
