Structure-Based Vaccine Design: Lighting Up a New Path for Novel Synthetic Vaccines
Structure-Based Vaccine Design: Lighting Up a New Path for Novel Synthetic Vaccines
Friday, 13 February 2015: 1:00 PM-2:30 PM
Room 210EF (San Jose Convention Center)
Using brilliant synchrotron light, Prof Stuart is peering into the detailed structure of organisms and using this knowledge to inform vaccine design for devastating diseases such as Polio, and Hand, Foot and Mouth. Understanding the molecular mechanisms of viruses has led to the development of an entirely synthetic vaccine that does not rely on growing a live infectious virus. Prof Stuart will discuss the potential impact of this novel rational approach to vaccine development.
