Role of Process Modeling for Additive Manufacturing in Aerospace

In order to reduce the trial and error optimization of additive manufacturing, a collaborative research between university and industries within the NSF I/UCRC program. The talk will highlight the progress made in simulation of fluid flow and microstructure evolution during laser additive manufacturing. The talk will highlight the need for validation of these models with ex-situ characterization involving micron- to nano-scale electron microscopy characterization.
