Rapid Ex Situ 3D Characterization of Microstructures

Validation of multi-scale computational models for manufacturing requires comprehensive description of microstructures including crystal structure, elemental composition, grain size, and precipitate fractions within a component. In this talk, progress made in science and technology of three dimensional characterization of these features in manufactured components through robotic sample polishing, as well as, automatic optical and electron microscopy will be presented.
