Graphical Literacy: The Key to Understanding Geospatial Information

Over the last decade there has been a rapid increase in the number of maps on the web.  Meanwhile the tools needed to create such maps have fallen in cost and risen in usability.  However, the teaching of graphical literacy in schools and Universities has lagged far behind the technical progress with students emerging from University education will little idea of how to use color, layers and text to produce effective maps.  This talk will explore the issue and suggest solutions.
