At the conceptual level, the greatest achievement of quantum information is the realization that quantum mechanics can be harnessed to build disruptive technologies. Theoretical and experimental requirements for the realization of quantum technologies are converging fast, considerably reducing the timeline for practical uses. Several proof-of-principles of quantum technologies have been realized. Industry is now deploying early stage quantum cryptography systems and quantum sensors.
