National Manufacturing Institutes: What Are the Innovation Design Lessons?

In 2013, the President will launch three new manufacturing innovation institutes supported by Departments of Defense and Energy, to supplement the new Additive Manufacturing institute in Youngstown, Ohio. The Manufacturing Institutes will focus on advanced manufacturing technologies including advancing capabilities to revolutionize technology development and processes to transform production. This talk will describe the new program elements, including the process to design and stand up these institutes, which constitute a new element in the U.S. innovation system, including discussing methods for assessing success.
