James McCarthy , Harvard University, Cambridge, MA
Professor McCarthy, a former AAAS President, will discuss the importance of this survey for the health of science. As a member of the project advisory committee, Dr. McCarthy will discuss how the survey questions were formulated from the perspective of the interest to the scientific community. He will also discuss the urgency, challenges, and rewards of building better understanding between scientists and religious communities, based on his own experience working on a coalition between scientists and evangelicals to build public consensus on recognizing and responding to climate change.
