There is a long history of the public contributing to science be it amateur astronomers discovering and monitoring variable stars or large scale biological monitoring. With the advent of the internet the bar for participating in such projects has been remarkably lowered and an unprecedented number of people are getting involved in science. Chris Lintott will explore the recent history of citizen science and the breadth of projects and discoveries it has enabled.
