Energy harvesting and storage can be dramatically improved thanks to the tailored shape of tiny filamentary crystals called nanowires. Standing nanowires absorb light at least ten times more efficiently than equivalent bulk materials. As a consequence, nanowire technology has the potential of surpassing expectations for solar energy production. This talk focuses on nanoelectronic solar cell research.
