I describe a framework for responsible innovation developed for the UK Research Councils that couples dimensions of reflexivity, inclusive deliberation, and anticipation to personal, institutional and political responsiveness for influencing trajectories of innovation. This framework considers the purposes of innovation as well as how to proceed under conditions of ignorance and uncertainty. Case studies of implementation include geoengineering, synthetic biology, nanotechnology and finance.
