To support “responsible research and innovation”, Norway is currently pursuing a model in which scholars from the social sciences and/or humanities are “integrated” into scientific or technological research. In this presentation I will reflect on my own experience working as an integrated scholar in ecotoxicology laboratories studying the controversial areas of biotechnology and nanotechnology. I will emphasize ethical issues encountered and the lessons learned for both science and policy.
