This sequel to last year's popular “Secrets of a Science Communicator” workshop equips scientists and communicators to find the compelling stories in their research. Stories are a powerful vehicle for communication, but many scientists prefer to simply explain their work, leaving journalists and communicators to find the story. We believe scientists should own their stories, not surrender them. We will examine the science news cycle, the elements of an effective story, and how to balance knowledge and emotion. Concepts include visual storytelling, the Call to Action, and the Sparkline. This workshop is for anyone who wants to cut through the noise and get their stories heard — on stage, in print, and online.
