Room 311 (Hynes Convention Center)
Carol M. Tang , Coalition for Science After School, Berkeley, CA
After the 3 other panelists have (respectively) outlined the importance of after school science for youth, the differences between classroom and after school science outreach, and the motivations for scientists to engage in public education, Carol will give specific case studies of model programs which effectively deploy professional scientists into after school settings. She will discuss how these programs recruit, train, and employ scientists with youth and summarize the educational evaluations which have been conducted in this area. Carol will summarize some promising practices for scientists to be successful. Carol will be setting the stage for the breakout sessions which will occur after the panel presentations are over.
