Room 202 (Hynes Convention Center)
Colleen Manning , Goodman Research Group Inc., Cambridge, MA
In this part of the session, Goodman Research Group (GRG) will present the results of their external evaluation of the Science Festival Alliance’s four founding member festivals:  the San Diego Festival of Science and Engineering, the Cambridge Science Festival, the Philadelphia Science Festival, and the Bay Area Science Festival. The results are based on surveys of attendees, exhibitors, partners, and sponsors.

GRG will present results about who participated in these science festivals and how that compares to what we know about participants in other forms of informal science education. We will focus on the potential of science festivals to support the participation of underrepresented groups, including minorities, women, and family groups, as well as those without previous informal science education experience.

We will describe outcomes for science festival attendees, including science interest and learning, and feeling connected to local science. We will highlight factors that are associated with better outcomes for attendees and will report on attendee engagement with science after the festivals. We will also present outcomes for STEM practitioners and ISE institutions, including opportunities to reach their target audiences as well as opportunities to develop their capacity to interact with public audiences.
