Plants are the major point of entry for essential minerals into the food chain. This talk will highlight efforts to understand how iron gets from the soil to the seed with the goal of designing crop plants that offer sustainable solutions to malnutrition. We have focused on iron because it is one of the three nutrients that commonly limit plant growth and iron deficiency is the leading human nutritional disorder in the world today, affecting an estimated 4-5 billion people.
