Future Earth is a 10-year international initiative on Earth system research for global sustainability. The goal of Future Earth is to develop, in cooperation with an alliance of researchers and other relevant stakeholders, the knowledge and assessments required for societies worldwide to face challenges posed by global environmental change and to identify and implement solutions and opportunities for a transition to global sustainability. Future Earth is a response to the need for international, integrated, collaborative and solutions oriented research to respond to the challenges of global environmental change and sustainable development. This talk will discuss the conceptual framework and proposed integrated research themes for Future Earth focusing on efforts to foster research that can support a sustainable development agenda and transformative pathways to a more sustainable earth.
