By integrating pathology and physical sciences to track the journey of circulating tumor cells, new imaging and staining techniques have been developed to conduct fluid phase biopsies with major implications for both diagnostic technology and research into metastasis. Moreover new models have been developed for designing experiments with more efficient use of clinically relevant specimens by increasing collaboration between pathologists, cell biologists and physical scientists.
