For decades, interventions in household energy have been partly motivated by a desire to save forests of the global south. Since that time, knowledge of the relationship between biomass energy and deforestation has made modest advances. However, we still lack an understanding of the ways in which interventions affect forest degradation. This presentation reviews the links between biomass energy and forest cover and suggests ways to implement policies that facilitate climate change mitigation.
