Public involvement principles were derived from key public involvement processes used in siting High-Level Nuclear Waste (HLNW) repositories in Canada and several European countries. Evaluations of these key case studies are developed, particularly considering cultural factors that may explain variations across countries. From these lessons, a number of options are proposed for how the United States could involve stakeholders and the public in siting a HLNW repository.
