Sunday, February 19, 2012: 1:30 PM
Room 206-207 (VCC West Building)
Joshua E. Cinner , James Cook University, Townsville, Australia
Cinner will evaluate social and ecological outcomes in 43 fishery co-management arrangements to show that the majority i) were positive for resource users livelihoods, ii) had high compliance rates, and iii) maintained fishery resources at or above levels expected to produce maximum sustainable yields. Institutional designs of the arrangements influenced social outcomes of co-management, but had little impact on ecological conditions that were instead shaped by markets and livelihoods.
