Large investments are made by governments and private foundations in support of scientific research in the developing world. Some of these investments, particularly in frontier areas of science, often initiate passionate public debates. In many societies, the media often remains the main if not the only source of information on science-related issues. The media is also effective at influencing policy-making and decision-making. The World Federation of Science Journalists is implementing the second phase of the largest training scheme for science journalists in the world. The workshop will present lessons learned and results achieved in building a corps of professional science journalists in the developing world.
