Harmony with nature has always been an important principle embraced by Asia, and that principle of harmony has been incorporated during East Asia’s amazing advancements in all areas of science and technology. With the support of the government and Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), Japan has dedicated the last 50 years to research and development towards a more sustainable, and therefore, greener society. This dedication can be seen in fields such as research on the molecular level, the practical application of green science in transportation, the global understanding of our planet, and the need for the development of completely new, innovative types of energy production that are free of pollution. All of these contribute to the sustainability of humans, and of all life on our planet.
In each field of research, East Asian countries are cooperating and collaborating, and now is the time for East Asia to share our discoveries in green sustainable science, not from a national or a regional, but rather from a global perspective. In order to realize a global approach, science centers must play a key role to first connect the world community with the science community and then present the concept of a global perspective. Miraikan offers the “Tsunagari Project”, devoted to help develop a world-awareness for all people. To survive the global challenges facing us, we must integrate all that we are as a species towards solving those challenges by developing an ongoing global science communication between all people.
