Choong-Ki Kim , Stanford University, Stanford, CA
Using coastal protection as an example, she will illustrate an approach to quantitative modeling, mapping, and valuing marine ecosystem services. She will show how to estimate the supply of a service (e.g., wave attenuation by reefs) and how to incorporate demand (e.g., where are people at risk from coastal hazards?). She will describe how the models have been tested and validated and how outputs are being used to inform ecosystem-based climate adaptation and marine spatial planning.
