21st century technology allows scientists to collaborate in virtual organizations at a global scale to tackle complex and multidisciplinary problems in a cost-effective way. User groups can create their own e-laboratories or e-services. They can share their data and analytical and modeling algorithms, and create dynamic linkages to other resources. But as the number of users and the volume of data explode, how can the quality and integrity of the data and analyses be guaranteed? What are potential approaches to solve this question and who should feel responsible in which roles? Actors are sample and data producers, - integrators, research organizations and governmental authorities. Do we need new principles to guide them? The data deluge will result in orphan data sets, or otherwise not clearly documented data. How to deal with such data? Which curator of data librarian has authority to decide on the data’s fate? The talk will address perspectives for solution.
