Based on the pioneering work of the University of California, Berkeley, Mimura will address how incorporating social impact into considerations around intellectual property rights has opened the door to a broad range of IP-management models that are making it possible for campus researchers — including, notably, synthetic-biology pioneer Jay Keasling — to get the benefits of their work into the developing world through innovative arrangements with commercial partners.
